Dr. Ala’a bin Abdullah Nassif, Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Commission for Yanbu, said that the commission has developed the infrastructure of the consolidated telecommunication services network and information technology for residential and industrial areas to become the sole and comprehensive network covering all areas of the city.

The infrastructure has been implemented and the fiber optic cables have been extended. Two data and control centrals to secure the communication and information technology through the unified network have been established in order to manage and control the entire system and applications of the smart city.

This will improve security and safety systems and provide all means of comfort by establishing an informational environment that provides wire and wireless telecommunication and innovative services, which will be presented for all customers in residential, commercial and industrial areas. It will enable them to access and control multiple functions of any application by the providers of these services.

In his opening speech at the workshop organized by the Royal Commission for Yanbu recently at the King Fahd Cultural Center in Yanbu Industrial City entitled “Yanbu Industrial City is the First Smart City in the Kingdom”, Nassif said that the Royal Commission has signed a strategic partnership agreement to implement the Yanbu smart industrial city project with Bayanat Al Oula for network services (Bayanat) to manage, develop, operate and maintain the unified telecommunication services network and information technology services in Yanbu Industrial City.

Nasif said that the Royal Commission encourages the development and progress processes in all sectors including telecommunication and the information technology sector to provide multiple services within a high reliability work environment that meets the aspirations of the city’s residents either in industrial or commercial or residential sectors.

In addition, the network will open the space for all provider companies to offer their services for customers in ease and flexibility in accordance with the licenses issued by the Communications and Information Technology Commission or any other related authority.

The participants in the workshop displayed a visual presentation of the smart city and the role of the Royal Commission for Yanbu to develop its futuristic vision of telecommunications and information technology services that is needed in developing Yanbu Industrial City to become the first smart city to serve its residents in the Kingdom.

The presentation showed details about the technical and commercial aspects of the Yanbu Smart Industrial City’s project.

Nasif said, “The establishment of the workshop comes under the guidance of Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan Al-Saud, the chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu to change the cities of the Royal Commission into cities of excellence in line with the technical and technological development applied throughout the world.”
