Mahd Al-Uloom International School Jeddah (MIS) celebrated its annual art festival in Jeddah recently.

The students put up a display of performances at the Impala Garden Auditorium in Sharafiya. It was called MIS Cultural Gusto 2014.

Saudi folk fusion, duff, kitchen orchestra, cultural medley, qawali, dramatization, martial arts demonstration, magic show, elocution, poem recitation and group songs were among the activities at the festival.

The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an. School Principal Abdulla K. welcomed the guests.

Abdu Rabb, director and board member of the school, emphasized the importance of art and culture along with academics in education. He presented awards and trophies to the best students.

Syed Masood Ahmad, principal of International Indian School-Jeddah (IISJ), who was the chief guest, formally opened the program and said modern education should be changed in the wake of technological advancements. The students should be given ample opportunities for grooming their inherent talents, he added.

Yahya Khaleel Noorani, operations manager of the school, stressed the importance of arts in the field of education. Sihab of the department of English conducted the proceedings.

Ashraf, convener of the program, delivered the vote of thanks. The program ended with the singing of the national anthems by the school choir.

The girls’ section also celebrated its arts festival at the school auditorium with a range of cultural programs. Ayisha, activity in charge, welcomed the gathering. Salma Sheik, principal of the girls’ section, presided over the function.

Section Manager Ahlam inaugurated the event. Cultural medley, fusion and a skit were highlights of the day.

Saifunnissa, convener of the program, delivered the vote of thanks.
