Labor Minister Mufrej Al-Haqabani said his ministry will not allow the misuse of its rules and regulations, especially in the Saudization process, and ensure that more Saudis get employment.

Addressing a forum of the private sector and business women at the Council of Saudi Chambers in the Eastern province, Al-Haqabani reiterated his previous announcement that 1.7 million Saudis are now working in this sector.

He said 477,000 of the total are women, stating that a new system of weightage will be launched this year to address the problem of non-productive employment.

The minister referred to the issue of Saudis being employed by the private sector for the sake of Saudization, and not necessary productive workers.

According to him, the ministry has carried out inspections against 148,000 establishments and registered 73,000 cases of labor rules violations.

On non-productive Saudization, he said, the MoL has taken action to thwart such practices by adjusting the Nitaqat and introducing new system of “weighted ranges,” which he said will address the issue of non-productive localization.

The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) will focus on the need for qualitative and quantitative labor market with continuous update of the professional standards, he said.

“The country’s plan for Saudization will not be achieved without joint efforts involving the public and private sectors to implement the national strategy for employment,” the minister said.

He said the MoL closely monitors the situation through field visits and other measures. “We will play the same role through follow-up and verification.”

The minister said that the MoL is equipped with latest video system to facilitate the clients in their transactions and communication with the MoL officials easily and conveniently.

The minister referred to the work with the relevant institutions to support women’s work, which included their economic activities, partial work and care centers for children, stressing the importance of a safe environment at the private sector enterprises.
