The Ministry of Labor seeks a safe work environment that suits the nature of women in all fields.

The Ministry of Labor banned women from going to their work in factories before six in the morning and leaving after seven in the evening.

These times came as a modification to the resolution of the Council of Ministers which is related to the conditions for employing women in factories, a source was quoted as saying by a local newspaper.

The source added that Article 7 of the resolution stipulates that working hours of women should be defined from 6 in the morning until 5 in the evening, pointing out that modifications included Article 4, which states that not less than 10 women should work on a production line in factories.

He said the modification of Article 4 states that if women are working in a production phase, on the production line, all workers should be women, and their number should not be less than 10.

The source said Article 4 of the resolution had three paragraphs in the past, which concerned employing women in departments of their own, banning meeting between the two genders, and demanding factory owners to take the necessary procedures toward achieving these conditions; the third paragraph prevented women from working in the factory’s offices if the number of workers on a single shift is less than 10, with no less than three women on the shift.

The Ministry of Labor presented the resolution of the Council of Ministers which related to the conditions of employing women in factories, to owners of business, establishments in the private sector and working women, calling on them to participate in improving the draft law through the portal “Together for the Decision” to post their notes and opinions before its approval.

The general supervisor for public affairs at the ministry, Naif Al-Naitah, said presenting the draft law is to give parties in the relationship and workingwomen the freedom to present their opinions before officially approving it. He said the awaited decision aims to encourage women to work in factories and for factory owners to employ them and give them flexibility in the employment process.

He confirmed that the ministry is carefully listening to all opinions that improve the decision before its approval, calling on interested parties to look at the draft law through the community participation portal within 21 days.

The portal “Together for the Decision” is one of the services offered by the “Together” portal which follows the government’s strategy to improve the governance of the Ministry of Labor, and other sister establishments, including the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, the General Organization for Social Insurance and the Human Resource Development Fund.

The Ministry of Labor said in a press statement that jobs for women in factories shouldn’t be as hard as those allocated for men. He said the ministry took into consideration differences between men and women, and provides a safe environment that suits the nature of women in all fields.
