Electricity was cut off in some parts of the Mall of Dhahran after it was flooded on Monday.

Heavy rainfall in the Eastern province in the past few days raised the water level causing a minor flood in the Mall of Dhahran which led to some mall goers being electrocuted.

The victims were rushed to hospital while the mall was temporarily closed.

Col. Mansour Al-Dosari, media spokesman of the Directorate of Civil Defense in the Eastern province said: “Rain water accumulated in front of the gates to the mall and the water seepage resulted in one of the visitors suffering from electric shock.” He confirmed that the person was transferred to a hospital by the Red Crescent.

Al-Dosari also said that the mall had been partially evacuated and that the electricity had been cut off in some parts of the mall. A rescue team and police were also dispatched to the location he said.

Al-Dosari revealed that the number of cases due to rainfall in the province reached 13 cases in Dammam, including 12 cases of electric shocks and one case because of rainwater leakage inside homes.

“Qatif recorded 18 cases including 11 due to rainwater leakage in homes and five cases of electric shock from contact with cables and electric meters,” he said, adding that there was also one case of flooding in a school and an accident where a tree fell on top of a car.

“There were 12 cases reported in Alkhobar all due to electric shocks from coming into contact with electric light poles and billboards,” he said.

Al-Dosari said that there were no injuries in all the cases reported and called on the public to ensure the safety of the internal and external electrical extensions in homes. He also warned residents about hiring unskilled technicians to repair electric cables and lines. “Most of the electrical accidents happened owing to the poor electrical wiring in homes,” he pointed out.
