Saudi officer killed during attack on patrol unit in Qatif

The spokesperson said the attack happened at 8 am local time and led to the death of Sgt. Mahdi bin Saeed bin Dhafer al-Yami.


:: One security officer was killed while six others were injured during an attack on their patrol unit in the Eastern Province on Sunday.

A Saudi interior ministry spokesperson confirmed to Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that a security unit of officers came under “terrorist attack” while they were patrolling the al-Masoura neighborhood of al-Qatif city.

The spokesperson said the attack happened at 8 am local time and led to the death of Sgt. Mahdi bin Saeed bin Dhafer al-Yami.

“The six other security officers were rushed to hospital and their health situation has now been stabilized. Security authorities have begun investigating the terrorist crime, which is still the subject of security monitoring,” a statement on SPA read.

Qatif province is currently witnessing a series of terrorist attacks in recent months.

Extremists in the area have used rocket-propelled grenades and improvised explosive devices targeting security patrol vehicles and police forces.
