Our patience has limits, says UAE minister on Gulf diplomatic rift

UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash attends the Arab League foreign ministers meeting in Baghdad March 28, 2012.

:: The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash stated that patience “has its limits” as GCC take a stand against Qatar’s support of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Following the remarks by Qatari Emir Shaikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani criticizing Gulf rhetoric against Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates allied in their diplomatic reaction.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE immediately blocked the main website Qatar’s Al Jazeera news channel.

Without mentioning Qatar, Gargash tweeted on Friday, “in a turbulent region, there is no alternative to Gulf unity, and Saudi Arabia is the linchpin.”

“The right path is through openness, credibility and confidence,” he added.

The tension escalated after the Riyadh summit asserted the stand against Islamist militants and Iran’s regional meddling.

While Qatar repeatedly denied funding extremist groups, Western officials claim that Qatar supported extremists like Al Nusra Front in Syria as well as financing the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
