Emirates Airlines to let passengers keep laptops, tablets until boarding

Emirates plans to allow travelers to take their laptops and tablets past security gates and only collect them before boarding.

Emirates plans to allow travelers to take their laptops and tablets past security gates and only collect them before boarding, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, as they aim to minimize the impact of an electronics ban on routes to the US.

The US administration banned passengers on flights from 10 Middle Eastern airports heading to the United States, from carrying medium and large electronic devices with them on the plane. The ban is expected to come into effect on March 25.

The airline said it will allow passengers to use laptops and tablets until the last possible moment, where it will then take the devices for storage in the cargo hold until arrival.

Meanwhile business leaders and companies in India told UAE daily The National that they are plan to avoid flying to the US on Gulf carriers in order to be able carry their laptops and tablets on board with them.

Additionally, Dubai International Airport’s duty free operator estimates that it will lose about $2 million in sales this year from the ban, a senior executive said on Thursday.
