Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) has offered to build 16 nuclear power units in Saudi Arabia, according to Yury Ushakov, an aide to Russian president.

The project valued at $100 billion is to be completed by 2030.

“Our company, which has the most advanced technologies, is ready to join the project to construct 16 nuclear power reactors in the Kingdom,” he said.

“There are prospects for cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. The intergovernmental agreement on cooperation between Rosatom and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), which was signed in June of 2015, is under implementation,” Ushakov Rosatom First Deputy CEO Kirill Komarov said the nuclear program of Saudi Arabia is very ambitious.

“Last year we signed the intergovernmental agreement with Saudi Arabia on cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. We established a joint coordination committee and held its first meeting,” he said.
