A 3D printing firm that renders objects in metal opened up earlier this month in the UAE, the first such provider of its kind in the region.

Sinterex has established a presence in Ras al-Khaimah, about 90 minutes’ drive away from Dubai, will be able to produce metal parts with its 3D printing technologies, according to a recent press release.

Known as ‘metal additive manufacturing,’ the process of printing solid metal components works by adding and fusing together layers of steel or titanium. Producers claim this method of production dramatically reduces lead times, waste and costs.

Sinterex is looking to target its products to regional energy, manufacturing and aviation firms. The firm says it will also offer its services in market research and consulting.

“In the current slow economic and low oil price environment companies are under increasing pressure to identify areas for cost reduction and value enhancement,” said Alaa Elwany, the technical director of Sinterex.

“These goals can be achieved through Metal Additive Manufacturing,” Elwany added.
