Grand Mufti Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has praised the accomplishments of Saudi security forces in the campaign against drugs and highlighted the adverse effects of banned substances on society.

“The security forces have seized huge quantities of drugs in the last four months,” he said in a recent speech in Riyadh.

The quantities of drugs seized in Saudi Arabia in recent times were equivalent to two-thirds of the total amount seized all over the world.

Drugs cause the contamination of religion and people’s minds and pose a threat to the existence of a country, he said.

The nation of Islam is fighting militarily, intellectually and morally the twin menace of drugs and alcohol, he said.

Referring to those guilty of drug-related offenses, he said: “Your participation in the promotion of drugs is evidence of corruption and weakness of your faith. This is a dangerous phenomenon that falls in the category of targeting our religion and our morals and values.”

Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Zahrani, head of the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics Department, has said that the aim of drug producers and smugglers is not just money but also to destroy the youth of the nation.

He made the statement during the launch of the national project for the prevention of drug abuse in Riyadh.

“With the cooperation of Arab and other friendly countries, we have apprehended a large number of drug smugglers who move across the world to transport illegal substances,” he said.

He said that drugs smuggled into the Kingdom are manufactured in secret factories and the anti-drugs body knows their locations.
