More than 20,000 fake wrist watches hidden in ceiling panels were seized by the authorities during an inspection round conducted in Riyadh during the weekend.

The seizures included 15,000 fake Japanese and Chinese watches and 5,000 counterfeit watches for famous brands, such as Rolex, Adidas and Nike.

This was in addition to some fake guarantees and counterfeit posters of a number of famous brands, including women’s handbags, wallets and pens.The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) shut down nine shops due to trademark violation and the absence of price tags on the products. The shop owners were summoned by the MCI for investigation and legal procedures against them.

Meanwhile, at Al-Mursalat quarter, north Riyadh, which is popularly called the “Mobile Market,” MCI inspectors seized more than 38,000 counterfeit phone chargers, speakers and batteries for well-known brands such as Apple, Samsung and LG.

The shop owners have been summoned for investigation and legal proceedings and all the fake items will be destroyed.

The MCI had recently carried out comprehensive inspection campaigns on markets through its branches in the Kingdom to confiscate fake goods.

The MCI has emphasized that its inspection tours will be continued on markets, warehouses, shops and all commercial establishments to verify their regular operations,

The ministry has called on consumers to lodge complaints if they observe any fraud or counterfeiting through the toll free number 1900, or through the application of a Commercial Notification.
