MoH launches fresh drive against clinics of ‘popular’ medicine.

Executive Director of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the Ministry of Health (MoH) Dr. Abdullah Al-Baddah warned nationals and residents not to stray toward those who practice alternative medicine put out on social media which exploit the desperate needs of patients.

He warned great penalties await those who claim to practice alternative medicine without really doing so.

“The ads posted daily on social media websites, which are posted by wrongdoers cheating patients and exploiting their needs to get well, will be harshly dealt with.” He said the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine is the only national reference concerning this type of medicine.

“The center has defined the basis, standards, conditions and controls to practice this type of medicine through professional licenses to practice complementary and alternative medicine and their work is is supervised and evaluated if need be,” Dr. Al-Baddah added.

He said if patients are negatively affected they should complain to the national center at the Health Ministry and if the doctor is registered with them then he is stopped from practicing his work and is investigated according to the law. If he is not a member of the national center, then coordination takes place with the necessary authorities to penalize him.

Dr. Al-Baddah added there are many type of treatment in alternative medicine, including acupuncture, orthopedic, chiropractic and natural treatments. Currently the center grants licenses to practice cupping according to the guidelines established to regulate the practice of cupping by practitioners and institutions to ensure its safety.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine continually warns against those who practice such types of medicines nonprofessionally.

Dr. Al-Baddah said people should be aware of the ads posted on websites offering healing services. “They are offering no more than illusions,” he added. “They should be reported at once to the center.”
