Students urged to join academic competition

The Department of Education

The Department of Education has called on teachers and students in Al-Quwayiyah Province to participate in the Sheikh Mohammed bin Jibreen Award for Academic Excellence.

Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Shabana, director of education, said that “prizes include a certificate of recognition and substantial cash.”

The competition has been named after the late Sheikh Mohammed bin Suleiman Jibreen, former member of the Senior Clerics Association and the Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Issuing Fatwas in Saudi Arabia.

Abdulrahman Al-Shafi, department spokesman, said the competition is sponsored by a committee under the chairmanship of Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Jibreen.

He said that the competition has been engendered by the “vision of increasing motivation for excellence among students in all schools in Al-Quwayiyah Province, with a message of encouragement and support scientific and creative excellence.”

He added that the competition is also expected to encourage both male and female students to aspire for academic excellence “so that they can give back to their community later on.”

The award also intends to inspire students to be more active inside their classrooms in various topics and subjects, and encourage them to be active in extracurricular activities in the spirit of fair play and competition.

He added that “it is expected that they will also contribute later on in their careers in the Kingdom’s development in various endeavors.”
