Over 400 specialists to attend breast cancer therapy seminar

Over 400 Saudi and foreign doctors and specialists in oncology will participate in the two-day 10th Middle East Best of San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium here starting Feb. 6.

The symposium is being organized by the Health Affairs at the Ministry of National Guard.

Dr. Umm Al-Khair Abdullah Abul-Khair, chairperson of the organizing committee and breast cancer consultant at King Abdulaziz Medical City in the National Guard, said the international symposium will shed light on the latest updates and recent data on breast cancer therapy by providing more than 25 work papers and workshops, directed toward medical, surgical and radiation oncologists interested in the treatment of patients with breast cancer.

Fifty of the world’s leading researchers in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer will join the conference with the aim to provide a favorable environment for the exchange of experiences between doctors and specialists, and learn about the latest developments in medicine in the treatment of breast tumors, as well as the latest research and new worksheets displayed for the first time in this Middle East.

The symposium will reflect on adjuvant endocrine therapy in 2015, optimizing clinical outcomes and quality of life in breast reconstruction, neoadjuvant treatment of ER + breast cancer, new insights in breast radiation, HER2 positive breast cancer: insights from the Lab and clinic, triple negative breast cancer, and breast cancer predisposition: germline and risk reduction management.

Breast cancer is considered the most common type of cancer among females. More than a million cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year, according to the World Health Organization’s latest statistics. Over 1,600 new cases are diagnosed on an annual basis in Saudi Arabia.
