Denmark told the United Nations’ Security Council it is “taking necessary and proportionate measures” against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

“The Kingdom of Denmark … is taking necessary and proportionate measures against the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS, also known as Da’esh) in Syria,” Denmark’s Permanent Representative to the U.N. Ib Petersen said in a letter to the President of the Security Council.

The letter, dated Jan. 11, was made public on Monday. It did not specify how Denmark has contributed to the mission but, although it had sent fighter jets to Iraq, it had not taken action in Syria before.
