The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called an extraordinary meeting of their foreign ministers on Jan. 21 to discuss the mob attacks on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and the consulate in Mashhad.

“It was decided to hold an emergency meeting of the OIC council of foreign ministers on Thursday at the headquarters in Jeddah,” the OIC media department said Friday.

It said the OIC is holding the urgent meeting of foreign ministers of member states on a call from the Kingdom to discuss recent violent attacks on their diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad, and the repercussions as it reflects the high priority and attention of member countries.

“OIC Secretary-General Iyad Madani received a letter from Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir in which he called for holding the emergency meeting, which was discussed, and most member states have approved holding the urgent meeting,” the OIC statement said.

The foreign ministers’ extraordinary meeting will be preceded by a preparatory meeting of the ambassadors from the OIC member states, the statement added.

Earlier, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Arab League convened extraordinary meetings of their foreign ministers on Jan. 9 and 10 to discuss Iranian meddling.

Those meetings, besides denouncing Iranian violations of all international norms by damaging the sanctity of the Saudi missions and the Vienna convention that guarantees protection of diplomats in host countries, also condemned Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

The OIC condemned the violent attacks describing them as a blatant violation of all international conventions, and many OIC countries have severed their ties with Iran.
