Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman made a telephone call to Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Friday and expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and brotherly people of Indonesia.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Kingdom were joined by the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh on Friday to denounce the terrorist attack in the Indonesian capital Jakarta that claimed two lives including a foreign national (Canadian) and injured 19 civilians including four foreign nationals (Algerian, Austrian, Dutch and German) and five police officers, according to the Indonesian Embassy.

Earlier, sending his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and his wishes for the fast recovery of the injured on Thursday, OIC Secretary-General Iyad Madani condemned the perpetrators of this heinous act committed against the peaceful community of Jakarta.

Moreover, condemning the act of terror, Indonesian Embassy spokesman Ahrul Tsani Fathurrahman told Arab News that at around 11 a.m. on Thursday, a suicide bomber blew up a café at the crossroads of Thamrin Road in central Jakarta; it was followed by two explosions within the vicinity of the crossroads.

“Following this, shots were fired between the terrorists and the Indonesian police forces,” the diplomat quoted the Foreign Ministry in Jakarta as saying.

He said that within half an hour after the first incident, the police were able take control of the situation and by 3 p.m. the situation was brought to normal.

All businesses and premises within the vicinity of the incident in the business district are fully operational and returned to normal, he quoted the ministry as saying.
