Saudi national carrier flynas has launched direct services from Dammam to the Sudanese capital Khartoum, describing it as a strategic move to continue growing the carrier’s footprint in the wider Middle East region.

The inaugural flight XY420 took off on Jan. 5 from King Fahd International Airport at 7:20 p.m. and arrived at the Khartoum International Airport at 11:10 p.m. (local time).

Complementing flynas’ existing schedule of seven weekly flights to Khartoum from Jeddah, five weekly flights from Riyadh and three weekly flights from Madinah, the introduction of four new weekly flights from Dammam expands the total number of weekly flynas flights between Saudi Arabia and Sudan to 19 flights.

This firmly reinforces the major low-cost carrier’s position as one the largest regional operators connecting the two countries and providing travelers with greater connectivity and enhanced air travel options.

“The launch of our first international route from our new base in Dammam is testament to our commitment to make our services easily accessible and confidently expand our reach across high-demand destinations in the region,” Paul Byrne, CEO of flynas, said.

“The service provides our guests with greater choice while ensuring that convenience, efficiency and affordability continue to be among our key overarching objectives shaping the success of our wider growth plans,” he added.

“On account of the strong bilateral economic and business ties, our new direct service will answer the needs of both Saudi and Sudanese guests traveling in both directions – particularly in view of the fact that Saudi Arabia is home to a high volume of Sudanese workers – without having to transit or layover for hours at other airports,” Byrne said.

He added: “Sudan is committed in its efforts to attract a growing number of Saudi investors to operate in its agricultural, industrial and mining sectors as the country’s bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia are growing from strength to strength. In addition, the service will also make it easier for Sudanese travelers to perform their religious duties and enable them to frequently connect with their families in Saudi Arabia at any time of the year.”

The new route will operate every Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with flights from Dammam departing at 7:20 p.m. — arriving in Khartoum at 11:10 p.m. (local time). The return flight departs at 11:59 p.m. to arrive in Dammam at 3:10 a.m. (local time).

The service will be operated using an Airbus A320 aircraft with the capacity to carry 164 guests in a two-class configuration — 156 in Economy and 8 in Business classes.
