Pakistan shares ended marginally lower for the third trading session on Wednesday, dealers said.

The benchmark 100-share index at the Karachi Stock Exchange closed down 0.05 percent, or 15.21 points, at 32,968.26.

“Market remained lackluster as major index heavyweight sectors such as oil and banking remained low at the absence of any trigger news,” said Muhammad Rizwan, head of sales, Topline Securities Pvt Ltd.

“The cement sector continued to rally as investors expected the sector earnings to go up, riding on healthy sales and the upcoming China Pakistan Economic Corridor projects,” he added.

Gharibwal Cement Ltd. rose 5 percent, Kohat Cement Co. Ltd. and Lucky Cement Ltd. gained 1.37 percent and 0.28 percent respectively.

The rupee ended at 104.85/104.92 against the dollar, compared with Tuesday’s close of 104.90/104.95.

Overnight rates in the money market remained flat at 6.50 percent.Karachi shares edge down.
