An Iranian ship smuggling in drugs and people has been seized by the UAE’s Ministry of Interior, state news agency WAM reported on Tuesday.

The operation was carried out by a joint team from the Federal Anti-Narcotics department and Sharjah’s anti-narcotics department, in cooperation with specialized bodies.

“11 and a half kilograms of hashish and 142,725 illegal pills” were found onboard the Iranian ship in Port Khalid in the emirate of Sharjah.

Colonel Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate-General at the Ministry of Interior, said the raid uncovered the large quantities of the narcotic substances hidden in caches on the boat, and arrested 10 people, some of which were Iranian citizens.

Al Suwaidi added that two of the men who were apprehended were hiding in a tank and were found unconscious due to the lack of oxygen and high temperatures.
