The Passport Department is expected to extend by six months the visit visas of Yemeni refugees who sought sanctuary in the Kingdom after fleeing the war in their country earlier this year, according to an online report.

“Their six-month visas, issued under the directive of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, are about to expire. But these were subject to extension when they were issued,” the report said.

Of the hundreds of thousands of Yemeni refugees in the Kingdom, 463,562 have corrected their status, the report added.

The visas took effect on 21/9/1436 and will expire on 20/3/1437. While in the Kingdom, Yemeni refugees are also allowed to work for a living.

“The historic decision of the Kingdom to issue the visas contributed to alleviating the suffering of Yemenis while they are staying in the Kingdom,” the report said.

A Yemeni minister said recently that more than 1 million Yemeni nationals have sought refuge in Saudi Arabia since the coup launched by the Houthis and their cohorts early this year.
