Rapprochement with S. America ‘isolates Iran’
Arab countries’ rapprochement with South American countries will increase Iran’s isolation in the world, according to Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir.
Speaking at the Summit of Arab and South American Countries (ASPA) got underway in Riyadh on Tuesday, Al-Jubeir told Al-Arabiya News Channel that South American countries have always supported Arab causes.
“Iran seeks to establish relations with these countries due to its weak international position and because it does not have many friends across the world,” Al-Jubeir said.
Meanwhile, the Arab League has condemned Israel’s organized terrorism in occupied Palestinian lands and urged the UN to fulfill its responsibility by setting up a special international protection system for Palestine.
Al-Jubeir commended the South American countries for their “positive stance” on the Palestinian issue and expressed hope that it would contribute to broaden international recognition of the State of Palestine.
The Arab foreign ministers unanimously denounced organized Zionist terror and said that world leaders should support the Palestinian cause.
They expressed deep concern at the emerging situation in Palestine and discussed ways to halt Israel’s “dangerous escalation” of violence against Palestinians. They said that the organized terrorism practiced collectively by Israeli settlers and the Israeli Army seriously violates international law and amounts to war crimes and also crimes against humanity. They said the Israelis are carrying out a systematic ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and that the settlements are being expanded in occupied lands with a clear aim of Judaization.
Chairing the gathering of the 22-member bloc, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, UAE foreign minister, said the Palestinian issue was the key to peace and security in the Arab world.
“We are gathered here to make a decision about what we can do to stop the bloodshed, occupation and violations of international law by Israeli settlers and the army,” he stressed.
“This emergency meeting comes at a time of dangerous escalation by the Israeli government, the settlers, Jewish extremist groups and the Israeli armed forces,” he pointed out.
