A rocket fired by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip hit southern Israel on Sunday night but fell on open ground, the Israeli army said in a statement.

“No injuries have been reported,” it added.

On September 30, Israeli warplanes hit four training camps of Hamas’s armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, in response to a rocket fired from the Palestinian enclave that was intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system.

The camps were empty at the time and nobody was injured.

Salafist militants claiming links to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria group have said they were behind recent rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, but Israel holds Hamas responsible for all such incidents.

Hamas is the Islamist movement that runs Gaza, which has been hit by three wars with Israel since 2008, including last summer’s devastating conflict that left more than 100,000 homeless and killed more than 2,200.
