Haj is over and the pilgrims have started returning home, with many of them appreciating the efforts the Kingdom makes in ensuring the success of the pilgrimage.

Despite two unfortunate incidents — the crane accident and stampede — that claimed many lives, Saudi Arabia continues to win praise for efficiently managing one of the world’s largest annual gatherings.

Pictures and videos in various media of the security and other staff, as well as of the volunteers, helping the pilgrims serve as proof that best possible efforts are made to make the religious event a success.

“I am very much pleased and thank the government of Saudi Arabia for providing the pilgrims with best services, especially during the difficult time of the Mina stampede and the crane accident. The arrangements by the Health Ministry too was excellent,” said Ahmed Malik, a pilgrim from abroad.

Another pilgrim, Mohammed Asif, appreciated the services provided by the Saudi government to the pilgrims. He strongly rejected the charge that the Mina stampede was the government’s fault. “It’s not fair to put the blame of the stampede on the Kingdom. The government spared no efforts in serving the pilgrims, and provided them with security, safety and facilities,” he said.

“Even extending the stay for the injured and family members of the pilgrims who died in the accidents is another good gesture by the Saudi government,” said Asif.

Meawhile, Pakistani press consular Sohail Ali Khan has notified the families of the stampede victims about the extension of their stay and accommodation being provided by the Haj Directorate General.

“Several pilgrims have been assisted in rescheduling their flights. Arrangements have also been made for the relatives of the missing and deceased Hajis to visit hospitals. The relatives of those missing can also visit the office of the Haj Directorate General in Aziziah for information and assistance,” he said.

Khan said Federal Minister for Religious Affairs in Pakistan, Sardar Mohammed Yusuf, on Friday visited hospitals in Makkah to enquire about the injured pilgrims.
