Egypt’s top prosecutor accepted on Thursday an appeal in the trial of ousted President Hosni Mubarak after charges against him of killing protestors were dropped in a November court ruling, Egypt’s al-Ahram Online reported.

In a 135-page report, prosecutor Hisham Barakat submitted 32 issues in the November ruling to the Court of Cassation, state-run television channel Nile News reported.

Charges against Mubarak were dropped after a Cairo court found the case without “legal basis” to institute a criminal case.

The decision also acquitted Egypt’s former interior ministers Habib al-Adly and six of his aides.

Following the decision, Barakat ordered an appeal based on a “legal flaw” in the verdict.

The prosecutor is moving that the verdict erred in application and interpretation of the law in addition to faults in what has been displayed by documents presented in court, al-Ahram reported.

The court ruling, which received an array of reactions, also dropped charges of profiteering as the bench ruled that a statute of limitations had expired.
