The Interior Ministry has arrested three men for allegedly shooting and wounding a Danish expatriate in Riyadh last month.

Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said in a statement on Thursday that preliminary investigations have revealed that the three are supporters of Islamic State (IS).

Al-Turki said the three had received training by IS two weeks before the attack took place. “On that particular day, the three men met and waited for the victim to leave his office and injured him in their surprise attack.”

Al-Turki said officers have recovered the weapons and car used. While one of them drove, the second man opened fire and the third videotaped the crime, he said.

Last week, IS had claimed responsibility for the shooting of the Dane in a video. The four-minute clip shows the assailants driving behind the expatriate on Al-Kharj Road in Riyadh, pulling up alongside and opening fire on his car.

The man, identified in the video as Thomas Hopner, was injured in the shoulder. He works for Danya Foods, a unit of Denmark’s Arla Foods, according to reports.

The video was released by the Al-Battar Media Foundation, purportedly the media arm of IS. The video has the words “First of the Rains” displayed, an apparent indication that it would be the start of more attacks. It has the sound of rain falling increasingly faster on the video.

The video also has the words, “Operations of the Supporters of the Islamic State in Bilad Al-Haramain,” referring to Saudi Arabia. There is audio of its leader, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, calling on his followers to increase attacks on foreigners and security officers in the Kingdom.

The Saudi government said last month that IS was responsible for attacking and killing several worshipers in the Eastern Province.
