Jeddah’s residents are demanding that the city’s gardens be properly maintained and regular cleaning done, especially of the toilets and if needed, an admission fee be charged from visitors to pay for their maintenance.

“A token fee must be charged to pay for the maintenance of parks in the city so that they are open to the public all year round,” Saeed bin Aun said, adding that authorities are neglecting the green areas, resulting in their being dirty and becoming a haven for stray animals.

Another citizen wondered why no government department was monitoring the running of the public parks “which are picnic locations for those who cannot afford to travel outside the country during vacations.”

Mohammad Al-Qarni blamed the authorities for opening new parks instead of maintaining the existing ones.

“Some visitors who lack the rudiments of civic sense, dirty the toilets and litter the gardens with no thought for other people who might need to use these facilities,” he said.
