Three new residential, recreational and industrial cities will emerge in Jeddah soon as a part of plans to establish a city center for Jeddah.

Dubbed “the Heart of Jeddah,” this is one of the largest and most eco-friendly projects in the city.

The Heart of Jeddah is owned by Jeddah municipality’s development arm, the Jeddah Development & Urban Regeneration Company.

The company aims to include the private sector in urban development projects that work to achieve sustainable development in Jeddah.

The project comes in line with the directives and policies of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. It aims to create a city center for Jeddah, which will serve as a new destination and meeting point for residents and visitors offering a unique design and a new vision, said Mohammed Al-Bugmi, spokesperson of the municipality.

Al-Bugmi confirmed that the studies related to the project were in the final stages. “The work is now focused on securing the finances to implement the project infrastructure, completion of the main building designs, preparing documents for the tender of the infrastructure work, in addition to preparing the investment portfolios of the projects,” Al-Bugmi explained.

The project is to be built on an area of 847,379 square meters in the old airport area.

Al-Bugmi said that the company is currently working on developing the Khalij Salman residential area — part of the affordable housing project. He explained that the project aims to establish a model residential area with full services and facilities that meets the needs of all sections of society. It will cover an area of 3 million square meters and feature 1,250 residential buildings offering 25,000 housing units.

He said that 52 percent of the project will be allocated for housing, 11 percent for malls, public services and facilities, while the remaining 37 percent will be allocated for roads, recreational venues, parking and open areas. The construction of the first phase of the project to establish 46 buildings is currently underway.
