Riyadh traffic police arrested more than 646 car drifters during the last six months thanks to its undercover and intensive campaigns at drifting sites. The campaign was carried out by research teams in Riyadh supported by the official traffic patrols.

The campaign resulted in the arrest of more than 1,800 youth crowding at drifting sites, while almost 2,000 cars used in drifting were seized.

Riyadh traffic police and research and investigation teams have been trying hard to eradicate the phenomenon of drifting, which involves modifying vehicles to make their motor more powerful and race other cars in the streets. Efforts by the authorities have resulted in the reduction of accidents and drifting incidents.

Col. Mohammad Al-Oteibi, chief of the General Traffic Directorate in Al-Jouf, said that the campaigns resulted in more than 700 fines and the seizure of more than 1,000 cars that violated traffic regulations.

Al-Otaibi said: “The problem of drifting is prevalent in all provinces and we need to work to reduce this phenomenon. In the upcoming months we will witness a considerable decrease in the percentage of violators of traffic regulations and drifters.”

Authorities have called on parents to monitor their sons, urging them to help reduce the extreme results of drifting especially because most of these violators are usually young people.
