The number of Saudi vacationers spending their holidays abroad will increase sixfold by 2030, a local study revealed.

The study carried out by a company specializing in travel information systems predicted that 20 million Saudi travelers will vacation abroad by 2030 which is six times the current number of travelers. The study attributed the increased number of travelers to the boom in the Saudi economy, growing population and the advancements in travel-related information services as well as the educational renaissance that has allowed hundreds of thousands of Saudis to study abroad.

Nash’at Bukhari, director general of the Amadeus travel company which conducted the study, said that the results forecast an increase in the number of Saudis traveling abroad for tourism in the decades ahead.

There are several tourist attractions that Saudis are interested in visiting. “There is a large influx toward the US, Europe and Turkey as well as Dubai and East Asia that remain interesting locations for Saudis,” Bukhari said.

The study found that the number of tourist coming to the Kingdom will also double during the same period. “The Kingdom will also witness an increase of tourists in the next 15 years owing to the large-scale development projects which sustain tourism including the renovation of airports, establishing a train transportation system and updating travel-related information systems in addition to travel gate facilities,” he added.
