Fire trucks take part in the operation to put out the blaze in Dammam.

Two Civil Defense officers died and six people were injured in a massive fire that gutted the Al-Bilad Mall (Nesto Supermarket) in Dammam.

“We found the bodies of the two Civil Defense officers inside the mall this morning,” said Col. Mansour Al-Dossari, department spokesman.

He identified the two officers as Mohammed Al-Qahtani and Mubarak Al-Khalifa.

Al-Dossari said the fire hit the mall, which spans 30,000 square meters, on Saturday morning. Shoppers ran out of the mall for safety.

He said most damage occurred in the ground floor of the mall, adding that 20 firefighting teams took part in the operation to control the blaze.

Al-Dossari extended his condolences to the families of the dead.

He commended their services in the service of the country and its people.

According to Fahad Al-Ghamdi, Red Crescent spokesman in the Eastern Province, the operations room had received a report from the Civil Defense at dawn indicating that a massive fire had engulfed the mall in Dammam. He said two ambulances rushed to the site immediately.
