Second quake hits Western Iran in less than a week

A shallow earthquake of magnitude 5.2 struck northwest of the western Iranian city of Dezful on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, accoridng to Reuters.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in the city, which is located some 480 kilometers from Tehran, the capital.

The depth of six miles was the same as that of a 6.3-magnitude quake which hit the same area on Aug. 18, injuring 60 people.

Sunday’s quake hit 38 miles west northwest of Dezful.

Meanwhile, a strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted central Chile on Saturday, officials said as quoted by Agence France-Presse.

The quake reportedly shook buildings for 30-40 seconds, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or collateral damage.
