Conscription will not be required any time soon, said National Guard Minister Prince Miteb bin Abdullah during a visit to National Guard units in the Rafha Province as part of an inspection tour.

“Many citizens tend to enlist for some sort of military training, either through colleges, institutes or training centers. Such numbers are more than enough and exceed the actual needs of the country’s armed forces,” said the minister.

The minister recently discussed the duties and missions of the National Guard with Mehthel Al-Qahtani, National Guard commander, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

“Millions of people come to perform acts of worship in the Kingdom and as such, we must serve and defend this land with our treasures and lives,” said the minister in a speech.

“Our world today is enmeshed in conflicts and wars and it is every citizen’s duty to maintain stability and peace despite efforts to wreak psychological havoc among our youth.”

“These forces want our children to fall prey to their agendas to harm our country and distort the image of Islam”, he said.

Prince Miteb alluded to clashes and sectarian conflict plaguing the Muslim world.

“Recent developments have prompted our government to make continuous diplomatic and political efforts to contain regional strife, which stem from our ethical, humanitarian and pivotal duty as a nation that is an integral part of both the Muslim and Arab worlds,” he said.
