Saudi students attend a graduation ceremony in Brisbane, Australia

RIYADH — A total of 1,613 Saudi students under the King Abdullah Foreign Scholarship Program have completed their studies from 12 of Australia’s most prestigious universities.

Speaking at a graduation cum career day event in Brisbane, Australia, on Friday, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Khalid Al-Anqari said the graduates included those who have completed their master’s and PhDs.

He said some of them have graduated with a C average, but this will not be a hindrance to employing them in Saudi universities even though they require a B average for employment.

He said some Saudi universities did not attend the event because of time constraints.

He promised there will be more participants next year.

Many graduates were disappointed when Saudi universities rejected their employment applications because they failed to obtain a B average, while some institutions have refused to rejected several graduates even though they obtained a B average because they scored only a C in their undergraduate program.

The Saudi Basics Industries Company (SABIC) has refused to accept women applicants, claiming that there are currently no jobs available for women.

Abdul Latif Jameel Group has asked women computer graduates to submit their applications through its Bab Rizk Jameel gateway.

Some 50,000 students of both sexes, who are part of the King Abdullah scholarship program, graduated this year from universities in different parts of the world.
