A model showcases a ring by Ringly, a wearable device that alerts users of notifications on their iOS and Android devices.

A new wearable device could end up being fashionable because, unlike others, it doesn’t look like one.

Ringly is currently accepting preorders for a ring with 18K matte gold and precious stones which alerts wearers of notifications on their iOS or Android devices.

A promo video says users can “escape from their phone but be notified when it’s important.” Whatever “it” is.

The concept behind the device is simple but the mobile application that pairs with it is pretty intuitive. Wearers don’t have to be bombarded by every notification on their phone. They can pick and choose to be alerted of specific notifications.

Social media notifications, reminders, when an Uber has arrived and messages and calls from specific contacts can all be synced with the ring.

The ring (available in sizes 6, 7 and 8) also has four vibration patterns, LED lights and a choice of five colored stones.

Rinlgy says the product is water resistant and that wearers can wash their hands with it on, but they don’t recommend “swimming, diving or water cycling.”

It connects to devices via Bluetooth and has a range of up to 30 feet from the device.

The box the ring comes with doubles as a charger for the device, which lasts up to two days before needing re-juiced, depending on usage.

The company also is planning to offer other wearables, including some for men, as well as additional stones for the rings and other functionality.

Part of the FAQ section of the website even mentions features like unlocking your car, mobile payments and tracking your sleep.

“Our core belief is that technology can be more discreetly integrated into our lives. Ringly places style and simplicity above all else and our first product line is a collection of rings.”

Before you get too excited, the rings aren’t expected to ship until this fall, according to Ringly.
