Terror plan against banks foiled

The Kingdom’s security authorities have foiled attempts by terrorists to bomb the Kingdom’s banks.
Local media said that plans were aimed to hit the economy and inflict harm on foreign investments in the Kingdom.

Investigation revealed that individuals who had previously been convicted of manslaughter had successfully stolen a limousine at gunpoint for use in robbing a Jeddah bank, but the car broke down, hindering their plot.

The suspect was, in fact, on the verge of bombing several Saudi banks with two vehicles loaded with explosives.

Hearings are ongoing at Jeddah’s criminal court to prosecute the suspects.

A total of 17 defendants were sentenced to varying prison terms and barred from traveling over the last few weeks for offenses ranging from dissidence to fighting in war zones abroad.

The defendants were also charged with establishing an organization inside the country for plotting assassination attempts against officers and citizens and to avenge the killings of several of their members in raids on a local stronghold.
