The International Indian School-Dammam (IISD) recently organized various activities to commemorate the Library Week. The weeklong activities included literary competitions, such as quizzes on books and authors, an intra-school debate on books and the Internet era, slogan and poster-making competitions and essay competition.

Mohammed Shaffe, principal, and Lt. Gen. Julius Rocque inaugurated the weeklong activities in the boys and girls sections respectively. The event came to a colorful conclusion with the declaration and crowing of the winners in the “Princess of Reading Contest.”

Shahzin Shaji (Class VIII), Rithumitha (Class VII), and Nandana Prashanth (Class VI) were adjudged as the “Princesses of Reading.”

Sneha Mariam Bency and Sivangi Sankar bagged second and first runners-up positions respectively in Section VI, Sharlotte and Charlene Merlin Xavier obtained the second and first runners-up caps in Section VII, and Marya Munawar and Sandra Peter were the other winners in Section VIII.

IISD has fully automated libraries in its eight sections and has a collection of more than 60,000 volumes. An active yearly procurement program keeps its collection updated. Planning is under way for the establishment of a digital library with up-to-date access facilities.
