Fireworks will light up the skies of Abha from mid-August over Al-Sadd lake as residents celebrate the annual Abha festival.

Activities during the festival will include a special light and sound performance, fireworks, Chinese dolphin and dwarfs shows, shopping and more than 35 games for people of all age groups. The festival will be held in a park covering an area of 150,000 square meters. Another 2,000 square meters have been allocated for children’s paintball games.

The park will also see the activation of the theater in partnership with the General Presidency for Youth Welfare in the region. In addition, there will be a fair where 17 stores will showcase the products of the local families prepared by the organizers free of charge in cooperation with the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities.

Visitors to the festival will enjoy riding the mountain cable car on a 5-km journey across the slopes of Tihama to Mount Abukhayal and ultimately into Al-Akhdar where they can refresh themselves at restaurants and cafes.

A further journey of 7 km will allow visitors to travel from the tops of the Sarawat mountains to the ancient village of Rijal Al mo’, where the local community will provide the visitors with transportation between the cable car station and the village.

Tourist information and guides will be available between the two locations. There is a natural amphitheater that can accommodate more than 1,000 people, where families can enjoy traditional dances and popular entertainment.

Asir Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khalid, who is also head of the Tourism Development Council, said that the national company for tourism will be an active partner in the festival having prepared more than 2,000 hotel rooms for the festival’s visitors.
