Over the past week, Qatari authorities froze the assets of both Sheikh Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Thani and Sheikh Sultan Bin Suhaim.

:: Saudi Arabia’s National Society for Human Rights has condemned Qatari authorities’ freezing Sheikh Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Thani and Sheikh Sultan Bin Suhaim’s assets of and violating their private property.

“The society points out that the right of ownership of those persons who had a view contrary to the policy of the Qatari Government should be respected, and stresses the importance of ensuring the rights of those who worked for them and not to harm them and to ensure their continued contact with their families,” a statement on Saudi Press Agency read.

It added that punitive measures involving human rights violations against persons or those working for them because of their political positions in the Qatari crisis contravene with international human rights instruments.

Sky News reported that the palace of Sheikh Sultan bin Suhaim al-Thani in Doha was attacked by a unit of 15 armed men in a raid carried out Qatari state security forces last Thursday. A few days later, Qatar reportedly froze all assets belonging to Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali al-Thani, one of the most prominent figures from the ruling family to speak out against the government in the ongoing crisis involving Doha.
