Egypt’s ‘Light and Hope’ orchestra of blind girls flies to China

:: An orchestra of 34 Egyptian blind girls has departed to China this week on a mission to spread “light and hope” through music, a news report has revealed.

The orchestra – known in Arabic as “Al-Nour Wal Amal” – consists of 48 visually impaired women and has been inspiring audiences around the world. They previously performed in countries like France, Switzerland, Austria and Greece several times.

Their China trip is the 31st in the orchestra’s history. They will perform in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. The girls have mastered playing on the violin, flute and cello.

The band has also been trained to memorize more than 40 musical pieces to play during their concerts. The chamber was established in 1954 by volunteering women in the community under the late Istiqlal Radi.
