During the meetings of the Strategic Contact Group of the Global coalition against ISIS, which began its sessions today in Washington DC, the Egyptian delegation said that it is no longer acceptable for the coalition to include countries that support terrorism or promote terrorists discourse through their media outlets.

The Egyptian delegation headed by Ahmed Abu Zaid presented Egypt’s vision to combat terrorism and the strategy needed to confront it.

The official spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the meeting of the working group on the strategy of communication and counter-extremism is taking place after important and serious developments witnessed in the file of combating terrorism on the international scene.

He also emphasized that the meeting holds a special significance since it is the first official collaboration after the Arab American Islamic Summit in May, and after Egypt clearly expressed its position on the issue of combating terrorism through the speech delivered by President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi before the summit putting the international community against a set of challenges that should be addressed to eliminate this phenomenon completely.

The meeting follows the announcement of a package of measures taken by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in face of Qatar’s support in harboring terrorist groups as well as the four-way meeting held in Cairo last Wednesday. He pointed out that the members of the international coalition have yet another challenge to face since Qatar is a member of the coalition, and its membership may affect the credibility of the work of the coalition itself and its ability to achieve its objectives.

The foreign ministry spokesman added that the Egyptian delegation will provide more evidence to prove the support of certain countries for terrorist organizations and the need to crystallize a firm stance towards these countries and stop the policy of appeasement and denial.
