The King Salman Center for Humanitarian Works (KSCHW) has sent seven trucks to deliver 230 tons of aid as part of a program to help citizens of Tajikistan return to normal life.

The aid delivery was made after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman issued a directive to the center to help Tajikistan which was hit by a 4.2-magnitude earthquake on Dec. 7, 2015.

Earlier, the center launched the program in Tajikistan’s capital city of Dushanbe on the heels of a meeting between the center’s representatives and Deputy Foreign Minister Nizomiddin Zohidi.

“The two sides discussed cooperation on eliminating the effects of natural disasters in Tajikistan, particularly the mountainous areas,” said Dr. Abdullah bin Al-Rabiah, the center’s general supervisor.

Aside from the Kingdom, Azerbaijan also sent aid on Sunday, according to the Aziri Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The humanitarian aid was worth $500,000 and was sent by ferry from Baku International Sea Trade Port and delivered in 11 aid convoys.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah expressed his thanks to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for issuing the directive to help Tajikistan.

He noted that Tajikistan is the second state where the KSCHW had been involved in humanitarian efforts by distributing food baskets and other basic needs

“Tajikistan is the second state where the KSCHW is involved with humanitarian efforts to help people affected by the earthquake,” said Al-Rabiah.

He said that the center had also been distributing humanitarian aid that include food, clothing and medicine in the far-flung areas of war-ravaged Yemen.

He noted that with the launching of the center, a $274 million emergency aid was ordered by the Custodian of the Two Mosques to alleviate the suffering of the Yemenis affected by the Houthi attacks.
