Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman briefed the ministers in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday about his meetings with the Ugandan president and members of the Syrian opposition, and a phone call he received from the French president, said Culture and Information Minister Adel Al-Toraifi.

He said the Cabinet had also highlighted the Kingdom’s statements, on behalf of the GCC, at the 20th Anniversary of the World Summit for Social Development in New York on Dec. 11, outlining a commitment to policies on building effective institutions, supporting civil society organizations, and ensuring economic and social development.

The Cabinet commended the announcement by the coalition command that it had purged the Greater Hanish Island of Houthi militias and reinstated the legitimate government authority, said Al-Toraifi.

The Cabinet condemned terrorist acts across the world, including those carried out by gunmen on Kandahar airport in southern Afghanistan, and the suicide attack in the north of Cameroon, which resulted in the death and injury of dozens of civilians.

On the local front, the Cabinet welcome the king’s attendance at the fifth King Khalid Awards ceremony recently held in Riyadh; and later approved several decisions including authorizing the Defense Ministry to discuss a deal with Mali.

The Cabinet authorized the Ministry of Finance to sign a draft agreement with the Argentine government on cooperation and exchange of assistance in the area of customs; and decided that the Water and Electricity Ministry should discuss an agreement with the Swiss government.

The Cabinet authorized the Ministry of Civil Service to discuss an agreement with the United States; and the Foreign Ministry to seek an agreement with Cyprus on political consultations.

The Cabinet also approved an agreement to organize the transport of goods by land between Arab countries, without prejudice to the provisions of the unified GCC customs system.
