Young Saudis ‘have the skills for judicial posts’

Young Saudi men and women are capable of taking up responsible positions in the judiciary, according to Prince Bandar bin Salman Al-Saud, honorary president of the Saudi Lawyers Association.

Prince Bandar made the comments while opening the Legal Cultural Forum 2015 in Jeddah on Sunday with local and international speakers and participants present.

The Kingdom has many skilled young men and women and the forum would help them further enhance their abilities, Prince Bandar said.

He said the legal profession is an honorable vocation and that those involved must always ensure they conduct themselves with honesty and fairness. The large numbers of people present would see the forum contribute positively to the country’s wellbeing, he said.

The forum was organized by the Administrative Creativity Group in cooperation with the lawyers’ committee of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).

Those in attendance included Mazen Mohammed Batterjee vice-chairman of JCCI, Yassin Khalid Khayat, the chairman of the lawyers’ committee at the JCCI, Mohammed Darwish Salama, secretary general of the forum, and officials from the ministries of justice, labor and social Affairs, the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution, senior lawyers, law experts and judges.

Salama said the forum was aimed at stimulating discussion, exchanging experiences on key legal issues facing society, and creating awareness about human rights.

The forum opened with sessions on public rights, rights of accused persons, efforts to provide social protection for abused children, rights of workers and labor law.
