Saudi air defense intercepts Houthi Scud missile

The Saudi air defense on Saturday intercepted a scud missile fired by Houthi militias and supporters of deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh toward the southwestern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Kingdom’s air defense destroyed the projectile with a patriot missile. The air defense also destroyed a missile launch pad located in Yemen’s northwestern city of Saada. The operation comes a day after Saudi forces repelled an attack by Houthi militias and loyalists to Saleh targeting the kingdom’s southern city of Najran. On Friday, Houthis agreed to attend U.N.-brokered peace talks in Switzerland, as the war-torn country’s exiled government confirmed it would attend too. The talks would be aimed at securing a ceasefire, agreeing on a withdrawal plan for the Houthis and stepping up deliveries of humanitarian aid, Agence France-Presse reported diplomats as saying. A Saudi-led coalition of Arab states has been bombing Houthi forces for over two months in an attempt to restore the exiled President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi to power. |
