Officials are planning to use the “Abha: Arab Tourism Capital 2017” event to bring investors to the city. President of Arab Tourism Organization Prince Bandar bin Fahd Al-Fahid has announced agreements with Asir Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khaled to draft plans and strategies to attract investments to Abha.

Al-Fahid explained that the plans will not only focus on local investment opportunities but will extend to attract Arab investments, praising Prince Faisal’s support for these strategies and plans, saying: “As soon as we provide the support and facilities for the project, the city will see more investments.” He added that they are now working with Islamic banks to guarantee the investments by securing cash flow, limiting bankruptcies and encouraging more investors.

“We are looking at developing a variety of forums, events, workshops and courses in the 2017 event,” Al-Fahid stressed, expecting Abha to have 80-100 activities that will begin with a grand opening event that has an Arab theme.

In addition to investment opportunities and events, Al-Fahid said that Abha residents will benefit from the activity: “The event will highlight Abha and residents will take part in several workshops in quality services, e-tourism and competitiveness.”

Abha was selected as the capital of Arab tourism according to several standards including, security, touristic and heritage capabilities, preservation of the environment, infrastructure and ease of access.

Al-Fahid said he was impressed with his visit to Abha, also known as the city of fog: “I am amazed at the numbers of museums and models of historic villages that have been turned into tourist villages such as Bin Hassan and Rajjal villages,” he said, praising young people’s interest in their heritage and to show the stories of their grandparents and their parents to the world.

“Tourism has different aspects, including shopping, heritage, history, and nature, and all of these exist in the Asir region,” he said, adding that the new airport will be a landmark and a unique site at the regional level. It will contribute to provide more air transport services, and help a greater number of people come to the city.
