65 days: Vacation bonanza for teachers

Teachers will now be permitted to enjoy a summer vacation of up to 65 days, a directive issued by Minister of Education Azzam Al-Dakhil said.

The minister also ordered the advancement of the beginning of the annual vacation period for teachers to June 11.

“The vacation for the academic year 2014-15 for teaching and administrative staff at intermediate and secondary levels will begin at the closing hours of Thursday, June 11. Schools should complete all their academic activities for the year and submit the results to the students before this date,” the minister said, adding that the teachers and administrative staff will return to work on Aug. 16.

The order also stated that the vacation for teachers in primary schools, as well as for administrative staff and teachers at the nursery level, will begin after the working day on May 28, while the vacation for the administrative staff of primary schools will commence following the regular working day on June 4.

The minister also specified that the third written examination for primary classes should be completed in the 16th week of the term and that examinations for the intermediate and secondary levels will begin on May 24.

According to the directive, vacation for supervisors will also start after the working day of June 11, while their work will resume as usual on August 9.
