Member-countries on Saturday announced their support for the planned meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Yemen in the first half of May.

The 57-member OIC on Friday announced its plan to convene an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of the member-states to discuss issues affecting the war-torn country and its people.

The OIC decision follows a request by the government of Yemen President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

Djibouti’s Ambassador Dya-eddine Bamakhrama, dean of the diplomatic corps in Riyadh, said, “Djibouti supports the proposal for an OIC meeting to discuss the Yemini issue including refugees, many of whom are in Djibouti. We have supported the legitimate Yemin government since the beginning and the coalition to restore stability in that country.”

Chad’s Ambassador Sajour Yusoph Mohammad, dean of the diplomatic corps of African countries, said that his country too fully supports the planned meeting.

“Since the beginning, my country has supported the Saudi-led coalition to restore the legitimate government of Yemen,” he said. Gambia, which had earlier expressed its support for the Saudi-led coalition in restoring the legitimate government in Yemen, has also expressed its support for the OIC talks.

“We have supported the coalition’s cause in fighting the Houthis and their cohorts during Operation Decisive Storm,” Ambassador Omar Gibril Sallah said.

“It goes without saying that we support the planned OIC meeting in the wake of the Kingdom’s grant of $274 million for UN projects in Yemen as part of Operation Restoring Hope,” he added.
