The killing made international headlines last year after security camera footage was released.

The first court session in the case of an Emirati woman on charges of killing a U.S. citizen in an Abu Dhabi mall last December has been adjourned, local media reported on Monday.

The trial of the suspect, named as 29-year-old Alaa Bader Abdullah, was adjourned until April 6 for the defense team to review the suspect’s case files, the UAE-based Gulf News reported.

Abdullah was arrested 48 hours after the killing. She was charged with the murder of 47-year-old Ilboya Ryan, stabbing her with a knife in a mall on Abu Dhabi’s Al Reem Island.

Abdullah then, authorities say, set up a home-made explosive device outside the apartment of a U.S. doctor of Egyptian origin.

She also faces charges of establishing and managing “an account on the internet under a pseudonym with a view to promoting ideas of a terrorist group, publishing through this account information intended to distort the reputation, prestige and stature of the state and undermine its figures,” the UAE’s WAM news agency reported.

Abdullah is being tried at the State Security Court of the UAE Federal Supreme Court.

“Ala’a was not wearing a niqab (face covering) during the trial and introduced herself as a 29-year-old unemployed woman when questioned by presiding judge Falah Al Hajeri,” Gulf News reported.

Abdullah is accused of “funding a terrorist organization knowing that it will be used in terrorist acts, and that she committed those crimes with terrorist intent to cause death,” UAE Attorney General, Salem Saeed Kubaish was quoted as saying.

She reportedly adopted the “takfiri” thought, an extreme interpretation of Islam adopted by the likes of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and sought to “engage in terrorist acts.”

The killing made international headlines last year after security camera footage was released showing the accused entering and leaving the women’s washroom where she is believed to have murdered the kindergarten teacher and mother of three with a large kitchen knife.

Another video released by Abu Dhabi authorities followed, showing the process of the defendant’s arrest 48 hours after the murder.
